HOW DOES A GAS FURNACE WORK?

Like any other heating appliance, a gas furnace helps keep your home or room warm. Unlike other heating systems, however, a gas furnace uses natural gas or propane to distribute heat evenly. Here is how a gas furnace works:

Fuel Delivery: The process starts with piping natural gas or propane into your home, reaching the furnace connected to a gas line.
Ignition: When the gas reaches the furnace, the gas valve opens, allowing a controlled flow of gas to reach the burner. Like a spark plug, an igniter ignites the gas, creating a flame.
Heat Exchange: The burning gas heats a metal chamber, also known as a heat exchanger. It acts like a radiator, absorbing heat from the flame while preventing it from coming into contact with the air.
Air Circulation: The fan inside the furnace draws cool air from your home and directs it to the heat exchanger, where the air is heated.
Distribution: Supply ducts help distribute warm air throughout the home. Registers in walls or floors allow warm air to flow into living spaces.
Temperature Control: A thermostat in your home monitors the air temperature. Once the desired temperature is reached, it sends a signal to the furnace to shut down the gas flow and blower fan until more heat is needed.
